Latin America is the vast cultural and linguistic macro-region of the Americas comprising the countries and territories where Spanish, Portuguese or French, the Romance languages descended from Latin, are predominant, spanning Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. Bound together more by colonial history, language and culture than by any single physical boundary, it is home to over 600 million people across dozens of countries and some of the world's most linguistically and ethnically diverse societies.
