Ezhou

Ezhou is a prefecture-level city in eastern Hubei Province, China, on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, with its municipal seat at Echeng District. The 2020 census recorded a population of 1,079,353 within the city and 1,152,559 across its wider metropolitan area, spread over 1,593.54 square kilometers in three districts: Echeng, Huarong and Liangzihu. The name Ezhou dates to the Han dynasty and derives from an ancient Zhou-era vassal state, and during the Three Kingdoms period the city, then renamed Wuchang, served as the capital of Eastern Wu.
