Heihe

Heihe is a prefecture-level city in northern Heilongjiang province, China, on the Russian border, on the south bank of the Amur (Heilong) River, directly across the river from the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk. It marks the northeast terminus of the Heihe-Tengchong Line, sometimes used to divide China into a denser east and a sparser west by population. Its 2020 census population was 1,286,401, with 223,832 people in the built-up area of Aihui District, the municipal seat; by the end of 2024 its resident population was reported at about 1.23 million. The prefecture-level city covers an area of about 54,390 square kilometers.
