Wuwei

Wuwei is a prefecture-level city in northwest central Gansu province, China, bordering Inner Mongolia to the north and Qinghai to the southwest. Sitting between the major western cities of Lanzhou, Xining and Yinchuan, it is an important business and transportation hub for the area. Its position along the Hexi Corridor makes it historically significant, since the corridor was once the only route from central China to western China and the rest of Central Asia, and it continues to attract major railroads and national highways. Its municipal seat is Liangzhou District, its 2020 census population was 1,464,955, and it covers an area of about 33,000 square kilometers.
