Xiangyang is the second-largest prefecture-level city by population in northwestern Hubei province, China, divided north and south by the Han River. Known as Xiangfan from 1950 to 2010, the municipality was formed from the once-separate cities of Fancheng and Xiangyang (Xiangcheng) and includes one of the oldest still-intact city walls in China. According to the 2020 census the municipality had a population of 5,260,951, with 2,319,640 in the urban area, across 19,724.41 square kilometers.
