Xianyang

Xianyang is a prefecture-level city in central Shaanxi province, China, on the Wei River a few kilometers upstream from the provincial capital Xi an. The old city of Xianyang served as the capital of the Qin dynasty, making it China first imperial capital. Today Xianyang is part of the Greater Xi an Metropolitan Area, one of northwestern China major urban centers with more than 7.17 million people; its own built up area, spanning two urban districts, had a population of 945,420 at the 2010 census, and the prefecture-level city covers a total area of 10,213 square kilometers.
