Bhavnagar

Bhavnagar is a city and the headquarters of Bhavnagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat, about 190 kilometers from the state capital, Gandhinagar, and Gujarat's fifth-largest city by population. It was founded in 1723 by Bhavsinhji Gohil and served as capital of the princely state of Bhavnagar, which merged with India in February 1948; led by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Gohil, Bhavnagar was the first princely state to voluntarily join the Indian Union. The city is home to Shamaldas Arts College, founded in 1885, where Mahatma Gandhi studied in 1888 before going to London to study law, and to Victoria Park, Gujarat's only urban forest. About 50 kilometers away lies Alang, the world's largest ship-breaking yard, and the city is also a gateway to Blackbuck National Park in Velavadar, as well as being noted for its own styles of ganthiya and jalebi.
