Cuttack is the second largest city of the Indian state of Odisha and its former capital, and it is the headquarters of Cuttack district. The name comes from the Odia and Sanskrit word Kataka, meaning the fort, a reference to the ancient Barabati Fort around which the city first developed. It lies on a strip of land between the Kathajodi and Mahanadi rivers. The Orissa High Court is located there and the city is the judicial capital of Odisha, while it is also the state commercial capital. It is known as the Millennium City and the Silver City because of its long history and its silver filigree work, and it is noted for its Durga Puja festival.
