Daman is a city on India's western coast that serves as the administrative capital of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The Daman Ganga river divides it into Nani-Daman and Moti-Daman, and the 2011 census recorded a city population of 44,282 within a wider Daman district population of 191,173. Hindi and Gujarati are its official languages, and the nearest major city is Vapi in neighboring Gujarat.
