Dhanbad is the second-most populous city in the Indian state of Jharkhand after Jamshedpur and a major financial hub of the state, often called its economic capital for having the state's largest economy, and it ranks as the 39th largest city in India and the 33rd largest million-plus urban agglomeration in the country. Known as the Coal Capital of India for housing one of the country's largest coal mines, it is home to the Indian School of Mines, and its railway division generates the highest revenue of any in India.
