Jammu

Jammu is a city in the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, on the banks of the river Tawi, and serves as the territory's winter capital. Its population was about 502,000 at the 2011 census, with about 657,000 in the metropolitan area. Known as the "City of Temples," Jammu is a major staging point for pilgrims traveling to the Vaishno Devi shrine and into the Kashmir Valley, and its population is predominantly Hindu.
