Jamshedpur, also known as Tatanagar, is a major industrial city in eastern India, located at the confluence of the Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers and surrounded by the Dalma Hills. It is the largest city in the state of Jharkhand, with a population of 629,658 within city limits and about 1.3 million across its wider metropolitan area, making it the third largest metropolitan area in the region, the 36th largest urban area in India and the country's 72nd most populous city.
