Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is a town and municipality in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean are traditionally said to meet. Known informally as the Land's End of India, it takes its name from the goddess Kanya Kumari and is a major Hindu pilgrimage site as well as a tourist destination, home to landmarks including the 41 meter Thiruvalluvar Statue and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The town had a population of about 29,761 at the 2011 census, with Christians making up more than 61 percent of residents, and it has been described in ancient Tamil and Malayalam literature and by classical writers including Ptolemy and, in later travel accounts, Marco Polo.
