Khajuraho is a city near Chhatarpur in the Chhatarpur district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, and one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. It holds the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples in India, renowned for their erotic sculptures, and the Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and is counted among the seven wonders of India. The town's name, anciently Kharjuravahaka, derives from the Sanskrit word kharjur, meaning date palm.
