Saharanpur

Saharanpur is a municipal corporation and city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, serving as the administrative center of Saharanpur district. Its name is said to derive from Saint Shah Haroon Chishti, a Sufi sage honored by the Delhi Sultan Muhammad bin Tughluq in the 14th century. The city had a population of 705,478 at the 2011 census, making it the eleventh most populous city in Uttar Pradesh, and it has been designated one of India's 100 Smart Cities. Saharanpur was a site of early resistance to British colonial rule in the 1800s and is renowned today for hand carved wooden handicrafts and for its historic Botanical Gardens, which contributed to the scientific and economic development of India.
