Shillong

Shillong is a hill station and the capital of the Indian state of Meghalaya, nicknamed the Scotland of the East. It takes its name from Lei Shyllong, a deity believed to reside on the nearby Shillong Peak, and served as the capital of undivided Assam until Meghalaya was created on 21 January 1972. At the 2011 census the city had a population of 143,229, with a metropolitan population of 354,759, making it the 330th most populous city in India.
