Meulaboh is the capital of West Aceh Regency on the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, about 245 kilometers southeast of Banda Aceh, with a mid-2023 population estimate of 67,148 across 44.91 square kilometers. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami devastated the town, destroying roughly 80 percent of its buildings and killing at least 10,000 of its 50,000 to 60,000 residents, after which international aid organizations used it as a staging post for relief along Sumatra's west coast.
