Ilam

Ilam is the capital of Ilam province and Ilam County in western Iran, sitting at an elevation of 1,427 meters in a mountainous region with the Kabir Kuh range to its east and the border with Iraq to its west. The 2016 census recorded 194,030 residents, up 12.7 percent from 172,213 in 2011. Southern Kurdish is the dominant language at 83 percent of the population, followed by New Persian, with smaller communities speaking Northern Luri, Laki and Mesopotamian Arabic. The city has a Mediterranean influenced continental climate with heavy winter precipitation and hot dry summers.
