Kerman

Kerman is the capital of Kerman province in southeastern Iran, about 800 kilometers from Tehran. The 2016 census recorded 537,718 residents in the city proper, the fourteenth largest population among cities in Iran. Founded in the third century AD as Veh-Ardashir under the Sasanian Empire, Kerman grew into a major trade center linking the Persian Gulf with Khorasan and Central Asia, and was a stop visited by Marco Polo in 1271. It has served as capital of several Iranian dynasties over its history and is known today for carpet weaving, historic mosques and Zoroastrian fire temples.
