Qazvin

Qazvin is the capital of Qazvin province in Iran, about 150 kilometers northwest of Tehran at an elevation of roughly 1,278 meters. The 2016 census recorded 402,748 residents. The city served as capital of the Safavid Empire for more than forty years, from 1555 to 1598, before Shah Abbas the Great moved the capital to Isfahan, and it is known today as the calligraphy capital of Iran, along with a reputation for traditional confectioneries and carpet patterns. It remains an important commercial and cultural center in northern Iran.
