Semnan

Semnan is the capital of Semnan province in north central Iran, about 216 kilometers east of Tehran and 640 kilometers west of Mashhad. The 2016 census recorded 185,129 residents. The city is the hub of the Semnani language and home to the Semnani ethnic group, and it has served as a significant stop along the historic Silk Road. Settled around 240 BCE, Semnan has remained prominent through successive periods from the Parthian Empire to the present, and it holds numerous religious and secular historical monuments.
