Yasuj

Yasuj is the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province in southwestern Iran, situated in Boyer-Ahmad County in the Zagros Mountains. The 2016 census recorded 134,532 residents. It is the wettest city in Iran south of the Alborz Mountains, receiving significant annual rainfall, and the surrounding region shows evidence of settlement dating to the Bronze Age. Nearby, Alexander the Great and his Macedonian forces breached the mountain pass known as the Persian Gates in 331 BC, opening the route into the Persian heartland, and the name Yasuj refers to both the city and its surrounding region.
