Kut, officially Al-Kut and also spelled Kutulamare or Kut al-Imara, is a city in eastern Iraq on the left bank of the Tigris River, about 160 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, and the capital of Wasit Governorate. Its estimated population was about 389,400 as of 2018. The province long known as Al Kut was renamed Wasit in the 1960s.
