Kiryat Motzkin is a city in the Haifa District of Israel, 8 kilometers north of central Haifa, with an official population of 51,488 in 2024, though unofficial counts put it near 55,600. Founded in 1934 and named after Leo Motzkin, an organizer of the First Zionist Congress in 1897, the city is predominantly Jewish, with about 40 percent of residents immigrants from the former Soviet Union or their descendants. It functions mainly as a commuter town in the Haifa metropolitan area, with residents working in nearby high-tech, oil, academic and defense industries, and it has largely run out of land for new construction, shifting its focus to urban renewal.
