The Jin dynasty, officially the Great Jin, was a Jurchen-led imperial dynasty of China and adjacent territories that existed from 1115 to 1234. Established by Aguda, chieftain of the Wanyan clan, the Jin dynasty emerged from the merger of several Jurchen tribes originally under the rule of the Liao dynasty of the Khitans. After the founding of the new Jin dynasty, its ruling house declared complete independence from the Liao and eventually toppled the Liao dynasty.
