Mafraq

Mafraq is the capital city of Mafraq Governorate in Jordan, located 80 kilometers north of the national capital, Amman, at a crossroads with a road north to Syria and a road east to Iraq. The site, once known as al-Fudayn, was occupied in antiquity, and during the later Islamic period it became a staging point along the caravan road to Mecca for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
