Lao Cai was a provincial city and the former capital of Lao Cai province in Vietnam, located about 260 kilometers northwest of Hanoi at the meeting point of the Red River and the Nanxi River, bordering Yunnan, China. It has since been dissolved and reorganized into wards and communes within the province.
