Mandalgovi

Mandalgovi is the capital of Dundgovi Province in central Mongolia, about 300 kilometers south of Ulaanbaatar on the edge of the Gobi Desert, with the official administrative name Saintsagaan sum. It began as a small settlement of about 40 yurts before gaining town status in 1942. Population figures show growth from 10,299 in 2007 and 10,506 in 2005 to 12,339 in 2017. The town covers about 11 square kilometers at an elevation of 1,395 meters and has a cold arid climate with warm summers and frigid winters.
