Mörön

Mörön is the administrative center of Khövsgöl Province in northern Mongolia, on the Delger Mörön river, and is the country's fifth most populous city after Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan, Erdenet and Choibalsan, with 46,918 residents. The settlement grew from the Möröngiin Khüree monastery, founded in 1809 or 1811, which was destroyed in 1937; a replacement, Danzadarjaa Khiid, was built in the 1990s. Before 1933 the provincial capital had been Khatgal. Mörön was connected to Mongolia's central power grid in 2004 and gained a road link to Ulaanbaatar only in December 2014.
