Sainshand

Sainshand is the capital of Dornogovi Province in southeastern Mongolia, situated in the eastern Gobi Desert steppe on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. It was founded in 1931 and sits at an elevation of 961 meters. According to the 2022 census the city had 28,097 residents across a district of about 2,300 square kilometers, administratively divided into five communes, including the remote Zuunbayan oil-production settlement 46 kilometers south of the main city.
