Zuunmod

Zuunmod is the capital of Tov Province in central Mongolia, about 43 kilometers south of Ulaanbaatar on the southern side of Bogd Khan Mountain. Its name means a hundred trees. The town was established as the province's administrative center in 1942; before that, Tov Province had been administered from Ulaanbaatar itself. The area was also the site of the Battle of Jao Modo in May 1649, a Qing dynasty victory. As of 2017 the town had about 16,953 residents across 19.18 square kilometers, and it has a subarctic climate supporting a pastoral economy.
