Tubas is a city in the northeastern West Bank of Palestine, serving as the capital of the Tubas Governorate, located northeast of Nablus and west of the Jordan Valley. The modern settlement was established in the late nineteenth century by Arab clans migrating from the Jordan Valley, with the Daraghmeh clan today making up roughly seventy percent of its residents, and the site is identified with the ancient biblical town of Thebez. Tubas has been under Palestinian National Authority administration since 1995 and is governed by a fifteen member municipal council, with most working residents employed in agriculture or public service. Its population grew from 16,154 at the 2007 census to 21,431 at the 2017 census.
