Mariinsky Posad is a town in Russia's Chuvash Republic and the administrative center of Mariinsko-Posadsky District, on the right bank of the Volga River about 36 kilometers east of the republic's capital, Cheboksary. It was first recorded in 1620 as the village of Sundyr and was renamed in honor of Empress Maria Alexandrovna when it received town status in 1856.
