Yadrin

Yadrin is a town in Russia's Chuvash Republic and the administrative center of Yadrinsky District. It stands on the left bank of the Sura River, about 86 kilometers southwest of the republic's capital, Cheboksary. Yadrin was founded in 1590 as a fortified settlement and was granted town status in 1781; it is included in Russia's list of historic settled places. Its population was recorded at 9,614 in the 2010 census and estimated at 7,918 in 2021, having declined from a peak of about 11,000 in 1996. Its residents are predominantly Chuvash (about 67 percent) and Russian (about 31 percent).
