Ulsan, officially the Ulsan Metropolitan City, is South Korea's seventh-largest metropolitan city and eighth-largest city overall, with a population of over 1.1 million. Home to some of the world's largest shipyards, along with major automobile and petrochemical plants, Ulsan is one of South Korea's principal industrial centers and has one of the highest per-capita incomes of any city in the country as a result of its heavy-industry economy.
