Hasakah

Hasakah is a city in northeastern Syria and the capital of the Hasakah Governorate, with a 2023 estimated population of 422,445 made up of Arabs, Kurds, Assyrians and smaller numbers of Armenians and Chechens. It lies 80 kilometers south of the city of Qamishli, where the Khabur River, a tributary of the Euphrates, flows west to east through the city and is joined from the north by the Jaghjagh River. The city is controlled by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and became that administration's capital after Ayn Issa came under the control of the Syrian transitional government.
