Changhua, officially Changhua City, is a county-administered city and the county seat of Changhua County in Taiwan, and is part of the Taichung-Changhua metropolitan area, the second largest in Taiwan. The site was long home to a settlement of the Babuza people, a coastal Taiwanese aboriginal tribe, before Han Chinese settlers built a bamboo fortress there, giving the city its nickname of Bamboo Town. It is now known for its Great Buddha Statue, a 26 meter tall statue atop Bagua Mountain overlooking the city, and for the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan.
