Nantou City is a county-administered city in the northwest of Nantou County, Taiwan, lying between the Bagua Mountains and the Maoluo River. It serves as the county seat of Nantou County and is served by Freeway No. 3. Its name is a transliteration of the Hoanya word Ramtau, with its first character chosen to complement that of Taipei's Beitou district, even though the two aboriginal names are unrelated.
