Songkhla

Songkhla, also known historically as Singgora or Singora, is a city in Songkhla Province in southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border and about 968 kilometers south of Bangkok. It is the capital of both Songkhla Province and Mueang Songkhla District, and though smaller than the neighboring city of Hat Yai, it forms part of the Greater Hat Yai-Songkhla Metropolitan Area, the third-largest metropolitan region in Thailand with about 800,000 residents. The city is a fishing town and harbor at the mouth of Songkhla Lake on the Gulf of Thailand, and serves as the major seaport on the eastern side of the Isthmus of Kra.
