Thai Nguyen

Thai Nguyen is a city in northeastern Vietnam that serves as the capital and largest city of Thai Nguyen Province, ranked the ninth largest city in Vietnam and classified as a first class city. As of 2018 its population was about 420,000 across 170.7 square kilometers. It became an official city on 19 October 1962 and was the site of the 1917 Thai Nguyen uprising against French colonial rule; in 1959 it became home to Vietnams first steel mill, and the surrounding area is known for Tan Cuong tea, among the countrys most recognized tea regions. Today Thai Nguyen hosts a major regional university complex and a large Samsung Electronics manufacturing facility.
