Ardahan is a city in northeastern Turkey near the Georgian border, seat of Ardahan Province and Ardahan District, lying on the upper course of the Kura River at an elevation of 1,811 meters. Its population was 22,927 in 2021. The city has passed through the Gogarene region, Georgian kingdoms, the Ottoman Empire and Russian control before returning to Turkey in 1921 under the settlement following the Russo-Turkish War. Ardahan has a humid continental climate with very cold winters and brief summers.
