Bisanthe was an ancient city founded by Samian settlers on the Thracian coast of the Propontis, the Sea of Marmara. It was later renamed Raedestum, and the town was destroyed twice by the Bulgarians, once in 813 and again in 1206. Its site lies near the modern Turkish city of Tekirdag on the Marmara coast.
