Çorum

Çorum is a northern Anatolian city in Turkey's central Black Sea region, about 244 kilometers from Ankara, seat of Çorum Province and Çorum District, at an elevation of 801 meters. Its population reached 269,595 in 2022, up from 227,863 in 2017. The surrounding area holds archaeological evidence of human presence since the Paleolithic period and was central to the Hittite Empire from roughly 1650 to 1200 BC, with the ancient Hittite capital of Hattusa located nearby; the city hosts an International Hittite Congress of archaeologists every three years. Çorum is known for its Phrygian and Hittite archaeological sites, its thermal springs, and its native roasted chickpea snack known nationally as leblebi.
