Corycus

Corycus, also called Korykos, was a town in ancient Ionia, in what is now Turkey, near a mountain of the same name and in the territory of Erythrae. The historian Thucydides records that in 412 BC, during the Peloponnesian War, the commanders Alcibiades and Chalcideus released prisoners there and conspired to draw Chios away from the Delian League, and that the Spartan commander Astyochus later passed through the town on his way to take command of the fleet at Miletus. It was once home to a piratical people called the Corycaei, and was the site of the Battle of Corycus in 191 BC.
