Elaea was an ancient Greek city and port on the coast of Aeolis in Asia Minor, near the modern town of Zeytindag in Aliaga District, Izmir Province, Turkey. Ancient tradition credited its founding to the legendary Menestheus, though modern scholars treat that connection as uncertain, and the city minted coins bearing his name and portrait. Elaea served as the port for Pergamum, situated roughly 120 stadia away, and was damaged by an earthquake during the reign of the Roman emperor Trajan. The ruins of its silted ancient harbor breakwater remain visible today.
