Ephesus

Ephesus was an ancient Greek city on the coast of Ionia, in present day Selcuk in Izmir Province, Turkey. It was renowned for the nearby Temple of Artemis, completed around 550 BC as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, came under Roman Republic control in 129 BC and later became capital of the Roman province of Asia under Augustus, and was a major center of early Christianity where the apostle Paul lived for three years and which was named among the seven churches of the Book of Revelation.
