Eskisehir

Eskisehir is a city in northwestern Turkey's Central Anatolia region and capital of Eskisehir Province, with a metropolitan population of 921,630 as of 2024. Founded by the Phrygians around 1000 BC, it was the site of a decisive Crusader victory at the Battle of Dorylaeum in 1097 and was occupied by Greek forces during the Turkish War of Independence before its recapture in the early 1920s; today a major university city anchored by Anadolu University, it was named UNESCO Capital of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013 and is known for meerschaum carving as well as manufacturing trucks, aircraft engines and rail equipment.
