Ordu

Ordu is a port city on the Black Sea coast of Turkey and the capital of Ordu Province, forming the urban part of the Altinordu district at an elevation of 5 meters. Its population was 235,096 in 2023. The site began as the ancient Greek colony of Cotyora, founded by settlers from Miletus in the 8th century BC, and the modern settlement developed as an Ottoman military outpost whose name was changed to Ordu in 1869; Ordu Province itself was established on 4 April 1921 after separating from Trebizond Vilayet. The city has a humid subtropical climate, and its surrounding province produces about 25 percent of the world's hazelnut crop, which accounts for up to 80 percent of local economic activity.
