Perinthus, also known as Heraclea, was an ancient city of Thrace on the Propontis, near what is now Marmara Ereglisi in Turkey. According to John Tzetzes it had earlier been called Mygdonia, and it lay about 35 kilometers west of Selymbria and 90 kilometers west of Byzantium, built on the slope of a hill like an amphitheatre.
