Perperene was an ancient city in Mysia, in Asia Minor, near Asagi Beykoy on the Kozak plateau close to Bergama in Izmir Province, Turkey. Founded as an Aeolian colony, it had nearby copper mines and productive vineyards, and was also known by the names Parparon, Perpere and Permere, later as Theodosiopolis. The Greek scholar Hellanicus of Lesbos is said to have died there at the age of 85. Perperene later became the seat of a bishop and survives today as a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church.
